I've been working with Rod Swoboda, editor of Wallaces Farmer, interviewing and writing about the 2015 Iowa Master Farmers. I've been doing this for nearly 40 years and each year the same thing happens. I'm overwhelmed with what these busy families give back to their communities.
I also get to visit with Master Farmers in other states such as Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana each year. The same thing strikes me during those visits. Master Farmers give not only valuable time to their communities, but often substantial sums of money as well. Through their generosity Master Farmers have helped build churches, schools, athletic fields, etc.
They "pay it back" and "pay it forward". You will be reading many of their inspiring stories in upcoming Farm Progress publications.
I came across another inspiring story on Facebook recently. Some of you may have seen the CBS news report by Steve Hartman about a 9-year-old boy who found a $20 bill in a restaurant parking lot. Instead of using the money for a video game or other toy, he gave it to a soldier who also came into the restaurant.
That story inspired people from all over the country and that $20 has grown into an amazing figure. I won't say more, follow the link below and I think you will be inspired as well. It's only a few minutes long and is a must watch.
