Western Kansas Manufacturers Association is sponsoring the 12th Annual Kansas Workforce Summit. The 12th Annual Kansas Workforce Summit, "Taking Education, Economic Development and Employment to the Next Level: Kansas, Are We Ready?," will be held January 23 and 24, 2013, in Topeka, Kansas, at the Topeka Capitol Plaza Maner Conference Center.
The Kansas Workforce Summit is an annual forum for employers, educators, community members, chamber representatives, legislators and government officials, and local workforce board members to address the new realities facing the workforce and economic development issues in Kansas.
Sunny Ackerman, Manpower Vice President and General Manager, is the 2013 keynote speaker. She will discuss what businesses are doing to hire and retain the right talent in a world where 49% of U.S. employers are struggling to fill mission-critical positions. She'll make connections to how the workforce system, economic development and education can support these evolving talent strategies, creating collaborative relationships and sustainable jobs.
The first day will also include many other great programs discussing drop-out prevention, school-to-career transition, improving collaboration between employers and workforce investment boards and human resource departments, as well as information about the ACHIEVE after school and community learning network.
The Kansas Celebration will complete the first day with the presentation of SDA Performance Awards sponsored by the Kansas Department of Commerce and the presentation of "The Relationship of Higher Education Programs to Workforce Needs" by Larry Isaak, President of Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC).
The 2013 Summit will be completed January 24 with the 2013 legislative update, the importance of innovation, degree completion as an economic development strategy, an update from the U.S. Department of Labor, and veteran's re-employment coordination in Kansas.
Registrations are being taken and are limited to 300 participants. For complete Summit information, visit the website or contact WKMA directly toll-free at 877-405-2883 or locally at 620-227-8082.
