Sub-zero temperatures overnight in northeast Colorado, western Nebraska and far northwest Kansas likely damaged winter wheat, with losses up to 2% possible, Commodity Weather Group said on Thursday.
Snow was forecast for the region during the weekend, which may offer some protection from more sub-zero weather Sunday morning, it said. Also, two to four inches of snow likely in the central Plains and southwest Midwest corn belt.
In the Midwest, continued cold through the 6- to 10-day period, which extends to Nov. 22, will hamper soft red winter wheat germination on 10% of the acreage. A quarter of that wheat belt may go dormant early, putting it at risk to winterkill, the forecaster said.

The cold in the Midwest should moderate in the 11- to 15-day period of Nov. 23 to 27.
