Commitment to Renewable Fuels Clear at Conference

NCGA President Ken McCauley likes the way Renewable Energy Conference is beginning.

National Corn Growers Association President Ken McCauley sees a "very clear" commitment to renewable fuels from participants at the Advancing Renewable Energy Conference in St. Louis Wednesday.

Mike Johanns, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, spoke about the benefits of biofuels. The opportunity to "buy our fuel by the bushel, not the barrel" can help wean America off of its dependence on foreign oil, Johanns and others say.

"As a corn grower, that is exciting to hear because it indicates how dedicated our government is to making biofuels a major part of the solution to U.S. energy needs," McCauley says.

McCauley agrees with Johanns' assertion that corn growers will be able to supply enough corn for the fuel, feed, export and food markets.

Speaking to the conference Wednesday, Johanns emphasized the Bush administration's commitment to renewable fuels. Bush will speak at the event on Thursday.
