Crop Progress Continues to Show Delays

Condition of both corn and soybeans are good.

As the growing season moves on the crop progress and condition reports for both corn and soybeans are mirroring each other. The latest soybean numbers from USDA show 86% of the crop blooming and soybeans setting pods at 55%.

"The five-year-average is 93%," said USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey. "Last year at this time we were similar at 87%. Soybean setting pods - 72% is the five-year-average; last year we were only a little bit ahead of this year's pace at 57%."

While Rippey says that while there is delay in progress, the crop condition still remains very good across the board.

"About 66% of the crop rated good to excellent, better than last year's 63%," said Rippey. "Only 9% of the crop rated very poor to poor; last year we were looking at 11%."

Corn also continues at slow progress but counters with conditions 68% good to excellent, about the same range as last year."
