Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA), a farmer-owned cooperative serving more than 18,000 members, recently earned accolades from The Dannon Company. DFA was named 2008 Supplier of the Year for Raw Materials and Packaging.
DFA supplies all of Dannon's raw liquid milk needs at its three U.S. facilities in Minster, Ohio; Fort Worth, Texas; and West Jordan, Utah. Shortening the supply chain and improving sustainability practices have been central to this long-standing customer relationship.
"Developing strong markets for our members' milk is central to our business," said John Wilson, DFA senior vice president for marketing and industry affairs. "It is truly an honor to be recognized by such a respected industry partner as Dannon, who recognizes and shares our commitment to producing the highest quality dairy products."
Suppliers were assessed on a number of criteria including improvements in environmental sustainability, quality and safety, improvements in cost, accelerating 'time to market' of new or renovated products, boosts to innovation, protection of competitive advantage, and the demonstration of shared values in the relationship with Dannon.
Nominees for the awards were evaluated by a cross-functional taskforce at Dannon and the final selection of award winners was made by the company's executive committee.
"It is the philosophy of Dannon that the Sourcing and Supplier Development teams enhance the relationship with our business partners," said Paul Gardner, Vice President of Sourcing and Supplier Development for The Dannon Company. "We have tremendous respect for DFA and are grateful for the contributions they make to our success."
