USDA's Dairy Industry Advisory Committee continues its work to find solutions to issues within the industry, and will meet this Thursday and Friday in Washington. Deputy Undersecretary Michael Scuse says the meetings will culminate in a report of recommendations.
"Their report is due by the end of the year," Scuse said. "We are looking for both short-term and long-term solutions."
Scuse noted that some short-term solutions have already been implemented such as funding to help dairy farmers in need through programs like Federal dairy payments and the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program.
"We are looking at ways to deal with the gross margin insurance that our dairy farmers can purchase," Scuse said. "Hopefully by the beginning of this next year that product will be on the market to help producers protect the prices they receive."
