Funding Provided for Community Water and Wastewater Projects

More money from ARRA for rural infrastructure.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced $14.2 million being funded by USDA through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act under Rural Development's Rural Water and Wastewater Circuit Rider Program to help rural communities identify water and wastewater infrastructure needs. The funding allows the National Rural Water Association to add 15 water and 71 wastewater technical assistance staff this year and next year to help communities by providing training and other technical assistance to local staff throughout the country.

Vilsack says this investment will help the department meet the basic need of providing clean and safe water infrastructure in struggling communities. The first $4.1 million will be for technical assistance services performed between June 1 and Oct. 31 this year. The rest will be used beginning Nov. 1.
