Members of the Governors' Biofuels Coalition say they want the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to issue a waiver to allow the sale of 13% ethanol blends. Iowa Governor Chet Culver, who serves as vice chair of the coalition, says the administration's response has been encouraging.
According to Culver the Environmental Protection Agency is going to take a very serious look at the 10% waiver. Culver says, "We think we have people in place, like Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack in particular, that can help us make the case on a daily basis."
North Dakota Governor John Hoeven, the coalition's chair, says increasing the 13% blend wall is just the first step. He says they want to continue the effort to increase the percentage of ethanol blended into the fuel supply.
