Red Brand fence would like to see more home grown produce in the diets of FFA students across the country. So it is participating in a national program that recently distributed more than $50,000 recently to local FFA chapters throughout the state of Kansas as part of the annual Home Grown program sponsored by Red Brand.
The donations were a result of the retailer's partnership with Red Brand in Home Grown, a grass-roots funding initiative created by Red Brand, as a way for retailers and their communities to connect with their local FFA chapters and generate funds based on fence sales.
Kerry Wefald, Executive Director of the Kansas FFA Foundation appreciates the partnership that Red Brand has developed to support FFA. "Our Kansas FFA chapters are truly thankful for the Red Brand Home Grown program," said Wefald. "Home Grown gives our community members across the state the opportunity to financially support our agriculture education programs by simply patronizing their local Red Brand dealer and retail outlets. Our agriculture education programs all have slightly different needs. Red Brand's Home Grown allows our advisors and chapter officers to apply financial gifts to activities and programs with the most need."
Funds to go toward scholarships
In the case of the Norton FFA, the funds will be used for senior scholarships. According to chapter advisor Garrett Beydler, their relationship with local fence dealer Kevin Hamm of Ninewire Fence Construction resulted in over $2,800 for the chapter, funds that are greatly needed and appreciated.
Dain Rakestraw, Marketing Manager at Red Brand explained that their relationship with FFA began in 1947. "Red Brand has been supporting FFA for over 66 years so it's in our DNA. We understand the vital role that FFA plays in the lives of our young people and we are proud to be able to find a way to bring needed funding to local chapters. By creating Home Grown," Rakestaw continued, "we not only help raise funds for FFA chapters, but the program also raises awareness and educates communities about the important role that FFA plays in the lives of our future ag leaders."
The Home Grown program is in its fourth year and has presented checks to over 700 local FFA chapters annually. The 2013 program is underway, but retailers can still sign up by contacting Red Brand through their website.
