Kansas Wheat Day at Hays May 26

Demonstration plots, disease discussion, even a trip down memory lane are on the agenda for Wheat Day event.

Kansas Wheat Day at the K-State Agricultural Research Center in Hays will be May 26.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and will feature at look at wheat demonstration plots, wheat viral disease plots and a retrospective on some of the most important varieties of days gone by.

Wheat varieties from both public and private breeding programs will be on display. K-State Research and Extension specialist Jim Shroyer will discuss attributes and relative performance of historical varieties developed by K-State.

Joe Martin will discuss current and new wheat varieties and plant pathologist Dallas Seifers will discuss the potential impact and damage caused by the Triticum Mosaic Virus (TriMV) and Wheat Streak Mosaic Virus (WSMV).

A free luncheon will be served and an update on public-private variety development collaborations will be offered.
