The annual NCB Co-op 100 that lists the nation's highest revenue earning cooperatives has been released. The report tracks co-ops in the sectors of agriculture, groceries, hardware and lumber, finance, healthcare and energy and communications. Revenue from the listed cooperatives reached about $173 billion.
"During 2007, the nation's top 100 cooperatives increased revenues substantially, by over $24 billion dollars from the same time last year, setting a new record for the highest-ever yearly revenue," stated Charles E. Snyder, President and CEO of NCB. "During this challenging economic time, the strength of the cooperative structure is even more evident for large and small businesses, in urban and rural settings."
Agriculture cooperatives took five of the top 10 slots on the list and swept the top three. The top 10 cooperatives on the list were CHS Inc.; Dairy Farmers of America; Land O' Lakes; TOPCO Associates; Wakefern Food Corp.; Associated Wholesale Grocers; GROWMARK, Inc.; Ace Hardware; Agribank, FCB; and California Dairies.
