Time is quickly running out to get your registration in for the Rural Opportunities Conference which will be held in Dodge City on April 9 and 10. You have only until Wednesday to register, but the good news is you can do it online at the Kansas Department of Commerce website.
The Rural Opportunities Conference will highlight rural business and community development topics. General session speakers include: Duane Goossen, vice president for Fiscal and Health Policy at the Kansas Health Institute; Tracy Streeter, director of the Kansas Water Office and Christy Hopkins and Liz Sosa, PowerUp liaisons.
Gossen will provide an overview of data and options for financing local and state government. Streeter's presentation will provide information about the water supply and use and future water needs of Kansas while Hopkins and Sosa will talk about strategies to engage younger rural residents and encourage them to become active in their communities.
Breakout sessions will discuss funding diversity and collaboration for community and entrepreneurial development; closing the workforce housing gap; the economic impact of water in Kansas; and attracting residents, workers and entrepreneurs to rural Kansas.
Submit your ideas
A new breakout session will be titled "Hot Topics: Not Your Usual Breakout Session." That session has no set agenda and no speakers. The session will be an open format where attendees will actively create the agenda.
Conference attendees can submit ideas to get the conversation started when submitting conference registration or by filling out a short form online. All of the ideas submitted will be gathered and made available to vote on when name badges are picked up at the conference.
Four rooms will be available and the four top topics will be the starting point for discussions in each room. The audience will determine where conversation goes from there.
