Seed for the first non-food, low-carbon crops developed specifically for biofuel production are now on sale.

Ceres, Inc. has started booking sales for high-biomass sorghum and switchgrass under the Blade Energy Crops label. The company has also launched a Blade website to support direct-to-farm sales. That site is at www.BladeEnergy.com.

The new crops can provide new opportunities for producers, especially for land that does not perform well for traditional crops, the company says.

Most of the seed is expected to go to bioenergy companies during the first year of sales, but the company has set aside seed specifically for growers who want to get some experience growing the crops.
