Stan Stark New Chairman of KGFA

General manager of Farmers Cooperative Co. in Haviland is picked as new leader for Kansas Feed and Grain Association.

The Kansas Grain and Feed Association elected Stan Stark, president and general manager of the Farmers Cooperative Company in Haviland, as its new chairman during the organization's 115th annual meeting in Manhattan on April 19.

Stark was appointed by the 16-member board of directors to serve his two-year term as Chairman through April 2013.

Stark is the 83rd industry leader to serve at the helm of KGFA. He also serves on KGFA's Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Stark previously served two-year terms as first and second vice chairman, respectively. 

"I am honored to serve the grain and feed industry in this role," Stark said. "I view this as a tremendous privilege and look forward to the many opportunities and challenges ahead."

KGFA members also elected Ted Schultz, general manager of Team Marketing Alliance in Moundridge, as their new first vice chairman. Pete Goetzmann, vice president of ADM Grain Group in Overland Park, was elected KGFA's new second vice chairman.

Gov. Sam Brownback was a keynote speaker that this year's annual meeting. Other speakers included Michael Dunn, Commissioner for the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, who talked about the wheat market convergence issue of 2010 and Dana Peterson, CEO of the National Association of Wheat Growers, who brought the group up to speed on public and private research issues in wheat and on NAWG's advocacy for wheat research on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

KGFA, established in 1896, consists of more than 900 member companies that include country elevators, sub-terminal and terminal elevators, feed manufacturers, flour mills, grain merchandisers and allied industries such as grain exchanges, equipment manufacturers, insurance firms and railroads. KGFA is proud to represent 99% of the federally or state licensed grain storage in the state of Kansas.

The other major event this year for KGFA will be its joint sponsorship of the Kansas Agri Business Expo with the Kansas Agribusiness Retailers Association. That show attracts more than 1,300 attendees from all facets of the agribusiness industry.

It will held Nov. 16 and 17 this year in Overland Park.
