A special exhibition at this year’s Kansas State Fair will feature cow-calf pairs in pasture condition with no fitting allowed. The Sept. 13 show is open to all commercial producers.
Cows will be judged on type, structure, muscling, natural fleshing and soundness of udder, eyes, feet and legs. The calf at side will be evaluated by the same criteria.
Two judges will separately score each pair and the total score will be used the pairs.
The grand champion pair wins $600, while the reserve grand champion gets $400, third place $250, fourth place $150 and fifth place $100.
Cows and calves must arrive and leave on Sept. 13. They must be in place by 11 a.m. and the show begins at 2 p.m. Entry fee is $25 per pair and are due to the Fair Office by Aug 16.
