Three Communities Advance Bids for 2012-12 Sampler Festival

Abilene, Liberal, Wamego still in running for event that showcases samples of what to see, do, hear, taste and buy in Kansas.

The Kansas Sampler Foundation announced that Abilene, Liberal, and Wamego have advanced in their bids to host the 2012-2013 Kansas Sampler Festival.

The three cities will now fill out a rigorous final application and prepare for a site visit and interview in September.  The host for the 2012-2013 festival will be announced shortly after the site visits.

Communities attend a meeting to learn what it takes to host the festival and then fill out a preliminary application before being selected by the Foundation staff and board of directors to move on.  McPherson took part in the preliminary round, but did not advance.

The Kansas Sampler Festival was held on the Penner Farm near Inman from 1990-1997 before moving around the state every two years.  Cities that have hosted the festival include Pratt, Ottawa, Independence, Newton, Garden City, and Concordia.

Leavenworth is hosting the 2010 and 2011 festivals.  The annual Kansas celebration takes place this year on May 1-2 in Ray Miller Park.  The purpose of the event is to provide the public a sample of what there is to see, do, hear, taste, and buy in Kansas.
