USDA is looking for applications from eligible liaisons until July 26 to help rural small businesses and ag producers reduce energy costs and consumption - providing funding to conduct energy audits and provide assistance for renewable energy development assistance. More than $2.4 million will be available through USDA's Rural Development program for the 2010 fiscal year's energy audits.
Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says the program promotes efficient use of energy, which can help curb the nation's dependence on fossil fuels. He says the audits will enable owners of rural businesses, farms and ranches to better monitor their energy usage and take steps to reduce consumption.
