Youth Swine Classic Coming in July

Youth Swine Classic Coming in July

Annual event for young swine producers will be July 8-9 at Riley County Fairgrounds in Manhattan.

The Dr. Bob Hines Kansas Youth Swine Classic is set for July 8-9 at the Riley County Fairgrounds at Cico Park in Manhattan.

The show and educational event is sponsored by Kansas State University's Department of Animal Sciences and Industry and K-State Research and Extension.

This year, in addition to the Prospect Hog Show, the Barrow and Gilt Market Hog Show and Swine Showmanship contest, youth and parents can travel by van or personal vehicle to the K-State campus to tour the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry, see a demonstration on pork cuts, and hear about the curriculum for students. The tour wraps up with free ice cream from K-State's Dairy Bar.

The youth shows are open to 9-year olds; 10- to 13-year-olds; and 14- to 18-year-olds. Everyone participating will be able to vote on "The People's Choice Award."

Entries close July 1. More information about the Dr. Bob Hines Kansas Youth Swine Classic is available on the Web at www.KSUswine.org or www.youthlivestock.ksu.edu or by calling 785-532-6131.
