Biotech Crops Benefit Environment, Study Says

A study on economic and environmental impacts of biotech crops will be presented Thursday.

A study by British Economist Graham Brookes indicates that biotech crops reap benefits both economically and environmentally.

According to the study, biotech crops help to reduce carbon emissions and fuel and pesticide use, as well as boosting farm income in developing and developed countries. The study also addresses biotechnology's role in meeting ethanol feedstock demand.

The U.S. Grains Council has invited Brookes to present his study at a briefing at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time on Thursday, March 8. Brookes will give the presentation in the LIsagor Room of the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., and the briefing will be available via a live webcast and teleconference. U.S. Grains Council Chairman Vic Miller and President and CEO Kenneth Hobbie will join Brookes at the briefing.
