Longtime teacher Patrycia Herndpon to benefit from Oct. 9 event near Inman.

John and Chris Hershberger's Italian Villa home near Inman will be the scene of an "Artful Taste of Autumn" event Oct. 9 to benefit longtime Dighton teacher Patrycia Herndon.

Herndon has been teaching art to Dighton area children since her senior year of high school in 1967. She started in a farmhouse near the tiny town of Amy and in 1981, she bought the old bank building in Dighton and restored it into a gallery to house her art works and art classes.

Herndon's support for art is more important now than ever as the elementary school in Dighton is not able to offer art classes.

The Oct. 9 event will begin at 3 p.m. and continue until dusk. About 20 artists, including Herndon, will have work on display and for sale. Tickets are $30 and include wine and hors d'oeuvres in the Italian Gardens.

Purchase tickets by calling 620-585-2241.
