Fire at CBOT Could Complicate Trading Today

No damage to pit, but options traders could have problems.

A fire in a closet on the fifth floor of the Chicago Board of Trade building didn't damage the agricultural pits one floor lower, but it could make life difficult for traders today. That's because wall screens that display futures prices are not operating, which could force the exchange to mark prices by hand.

The problem won't effect the bulk of futures trading, which is done electronically. But options traders, who work solely on the floor, could face delays figuring prices, because of lags in reporting prices for the futures underlying options.
