Goal of Sustaining Wheat Research Met in New Center

Wheat Genetics Research Center is public/private partnership to provide for permanent funding, growth.

Sustainable is more than a buzz word to Kansas State University wheat genomics researcher Bikram Gill.

More than anything, Gill wanted to be certain that wheat genetic research would be around long after his retirement and the work he has done for the last 33 years would be around as the foundation for that research.

Gill is certain enough that has been accomplished that he has announced a phased five-year retirement, beginning this year.

The development that gave him confidence in the future was the establishment of a private/public partnership to permanently fund wheat genetic research called the Wheat Genetics Resource Center.
