Kansas Alfalfa Production Off Slightly; Total Hay Gains

U.S. sees small drop; hay stocks down from last year.

Kansas hay production was up 4% in 2008 over 2007 according to data from Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service.

Alfalfa production was down, but all other hay production was up significantly enough to overcome the reduction. Across the country, hay production was down slightly, with 146 million tons harvested. Hay stocks as of Dec. 1 were down 1% from last year.
