NCGA to Release Yield Contest Results

After 45 years the program is still going strong.

On Friday, the National Corn Growers Association will announce the results of the 2009 National Corn Yield Contest. The contest is in its 45th year and remains NCGA's most popular program for members.  This year, NCGA has processed 6,955 entries, a 3.5% increase over 2008 and a 41% increase over 2007.

Media will be among the first to learn results, a full two hours before both contestants and seed companies will be notified of the outcome. The contest, which bestows awards in a variety of categories and across a range of geographical areas, provides farmers with both a chance to compete and with a tool through which they can find the best ways to increase yields throughout their operations.

Tim Dolan, chairman of NCGA's Grower Services Action Team, says through the long history of this popular program, it has always given growers a chance to celebrate success and learn better growing methods. The national and state contest winners will be honored at the 2010 Commodity Classic.
