Rains Delay Argentine Corn Harvest

Beans are looking good.

It seems to be feast or famine when it comes to rain in Argentina. Early dry conditions and drought hurt estimates for this year's corn crop. And now according to the Argentine Agriculture Secretariat, rain is keeping farmers from harvesting it.

The weekly crop report released Friday shows only 5% of the corn harvest completed due to heavy rains that have stalled harvest.

However the recent rainfall has been a boon to the soybean crop, helping development of the 2007-2008 crop. Even though the rains of the past few weeks have boosted the bean crop, early drought is expected to cause some fall off in yield compared with last season.
